Dark Chocolate: the facts

Chocolate is one of the world’s most popular foods. The dark variety in particular offers health benefits.

Dark Chocolate contains calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium, plus vitamin A. It also contains flavonoids (phytochemicals that act as antioxidants) that are linked to heart health, including lower blood pressure, improved blood flow, and reduced LDL (bad) cholesterol. Researchers are also investigating whether flavonoids play a role in cancer prevention.

The antioxidant found in all chocolate (theobromine) can be toxic to pets, including parrots, and horses.
