Pairing fresh broccoli with a spicy food that contains a specific enzyme enhances each food’s cancer-fighting power, according to a recent study. The combination ensures that absorption will take place in the upper part of the digestive system, where it will provide the most health benefits.

The University of Illinois researchers recommend eating your broccoli with mustard, horseradish, or wasabi, all of which contain an enzyme necessary for the formation of broccoli’s anticancer component. Other “broccoli boosters” include radishes, cabbage, arugula, watercress, and Brussels sprouts.
