5-Second Makeover

Quick & easy tip!

By Christine "Cissy" White

Are you embarrassed to admit that while you embrace natural food and lifestyle choices you are a little vain?

Maybe you wish your face reflected as much energy and vitality as you feel. Maybe you don't want invasive or expensive anti-aging procedures, but you wouldn’t mind finding healthy and easy ways to slow the hands of time.

It turns out looking more youthful can be as simple as applying a lip color.

Look More Youthful in 5 Seconds

Richard Russell, a psychology professor at Gettysburg College working with CE.R.I.E.S. (Epidermal and Sensory Research and Investigation Center), found that perception of age was related to facial contrast (at least in Caucasian women ages 20 to 70, on which this study was done).

In practical language, facial contrast means things such as the difference between the color of your lips as compared to the skin around them as well as the amount and color of your eyebrow hair.

People studying images don’t note facial contrast as an indicator of age, but subconsciously perceive those with less facial contrast as older than those with more. So if your eyebrows and lips are disappearing into your face a bit, it makes you look older.

And while wrinkles are a more obvious indicator of age, those are not as easy to change as your lip color.

So the next time you want to feel more youthful, keep facial contrast in mind and experiment with your lip color!

New Hue = New You!

Do your lips—and your health—a favor and skip the chemical concoctions found in conventional lipstick brands.

Look for natural and organic products with nourishing ingredients like beeswax, shea butter, and vitamin E.
